Blackfield batter Bashley after keeper sent off

BLACKFIELD & Langley took the lead within two minutes before Bashley’s keeper received a straight red as the home side ran out eventual 5-0 winners last night (Tuesday).

River Smith put the home side 1-0 up before Bashley’s Sammy Thompson was dismissed for a foul outside the area. Mitchell Speechley-Price added a second with half-time approaching before Blackfield took over with second-half goals coming from Jack Barton, Fawzi Saadi and a second for Smith.

Bashley came into the match full of confidence after a resounding 6-0 hammering of Alresford Town on Saturday, but the wind was knocked out of their sails within two minutes when Smith got on the end of a free-kick before diverting it past Thompson.

The visitors looked to be finding their feet, and they went close with a half-chance on 16 minutes. However, their chance of a comeback was made all the more improbable when Thompson received his marching orders after rushing out of his area and catching his man.

With 10 minutes of the half left, Bashley forced Blackfield keeper Joe Bessant into action for the first time in the match with a 25-yard free-kick.

Speechley-Price doubled the home side’s advantage in the 38th minute when he punished Bashley’s inability to clear a corner by slotting home from close range.

Bashley started the second-half much brighter and looked likely to score until Blackfield added a third when Luke Bennett scored from a corner.

With the game put to bed, Blackfield kept up the pressure, and Smith soon added his second to the tally by slotting underneath replacement keeper Harry Gravett.

With the final whistle moments away, second-half substitute Fawzi Saadi fortuitously added his name to the scoresheet after his shot deflected into the goal off a Bashley defender.
