FOR the second week running no New Forest deaths have been reported involving Covid-19.

The total number of fatalities in the district since the start of the year stands at 130, according to weekly figures released on Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics.

The numbers are for deaths that occurred up to 3rd July but were registered up to 11th July.

Last week’s total was 129 but the extra death is from a registration coming through from a previous week.

In the BCP Council area, which includes Christchurch, there was one casualty in a care home with Covid-19 listed as a cause of death. It brings the conurbation’s death toll from the virus this year to 186.

As reported in the A&T, last week was the first time since March in both areas that no Covid-19 deaths were reported.

The infection rate for the New Forest, according to separate government figures, rose slightly on Wednesday from 250.3 cases per 100,000 people the same time last week to 251.5.

Total confirmed cases came to 452.

Equivalent figures for the BCP Council area was a rate climbing marginally from 204.4 to 205.7, with total cases amounting to 814, up from 809 last week.
