Sydenhams Premier: Lymington Town 5-0 AFC Portchester
LYMINGTON TOWN FC took maximum points on Tuesday evening in a five-star performance against Sydenhams Premier mid-table outfit AFC Portchester.
New signing Steve Flynn showed his worth with a hat-trick and an assist but the star of the show and at the hub of Lymington performance was the skilful Mike Gosney.
With 14 minutes on the clock an immaculate cross from Gosney found striker Flynn who calmly fired Lymington in front.
The home side continued their dominance and increased their lead before the break when Gosney’s corner was headed in by Flynn.
Lymington brought on Michael Finch early in the second half and he soon added his name to the score sheet, with his former Poppies team mate Flynn providing the ammunition.
With five minutes remaining, that man Gosney picked out Flynn to complete an impressive hat-trick.
Gosney’s amazing contribution was finally rewarded when he drove home goal number five from some 35 yards out.
Lymington Town manager Dave Lewis told the A&T: “I am pleased for the lads. It is not common knowledge, but we have had unprecedented injury problems this season and the team has been suffering.
“We have had to flog the fit ones to death, we have been unable to rest them, and many have been playing out of position. The lads have all stuck to it, not one has complained.
“With injured players now returning fit and Steve Flynn and Michael Finch joining from Poppies we have some stability back and can now rest some of the lads who have been ripping up trees for us all season.“
