Lymington sailors put in top performances to take Great Britain berths
LYMINGTON junior sailors produced exceptional performances at last weekend’s Great Britain selection trials in Weymouth & Portland.
After four intense days of close racing and 12 races in varied weather conditions seven RLymYC Optimist sailors were selected for GB teams.
Henry Heathcote and Ben Mueller will be flying the GB flag at the World Championships in Antigua in July.
Santiago Sesto-Cosby and Ella Lightbody are off to the European Championships in June.
Sam Webb, Annabelle Vines and Cameron Blamey will be part of the GB development squad competing in Estonia in June.
Henry Heathcote and Santiago Sesto-Cosby are also part of the GBR Team going to Venice in May, to contest the Optimist International Team Racing trophy. They are being joined by Hayling Island Sailors Kuba Staite and Megan Farrer.
As well as GB selection honours, RLymYC won most of the awards at the weekend. Ella Lightbody won the prize for best girl first timer at selection trials and Cameron Blamey took the same award for the boys.
Sammy Griffith was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy for looking after a capsized sailor, collecting and hanging on to his scattered water bottles in one of the windiest days.
