A REFRESHMENTS kiosk could be added to designs for the revamp of Lymington Town Quay.

The space for an outlet would be added to the riverside end of a new toilet block, which is set to replace the current building as part of a wider £700,000 improvements scheme for the area.

The idea was revealed in a report to Lymington and Pennington Town Council, which said it had been suggested by those responding to the recent public consultation.

The project is being led by landowner New Forest District Council which is funding it with contributions from the harbour commissioners and the town council.

Additional features were raising the budget, said the report to a meeting of the full council, which might see NFDC ask for more funds.

The kiosk could be added using cash from the town council, it said, which could then gain extra income by leasing it on a peppercorn rent from NFDC.

More town council funding could come from its Buckland Farm Access Fund, a £1.7m pot secured in a land access deal with housebuilder Pennyfarthing for its Alexandra Road development in Buckland.

As reported in the A&T, the favoured option in the consultation was for a flat-roof building offering views over the river.

It would include new toilets and showers for sailors, new planting and remove 12 parking spaces to make more space for visitors and events.

A decision on the final scheme is expected to be made by NFDC’s planning committee in June. If agreed, work would start at the end of September, with an opening in the spring of 2021.
