Concert for Meningitis takes place this Sunday at Hordle Pavillion

A CHARITY concert featuring old-time music and contemporary hits will take place at Hordle Pavilion on Sunday.

A Concert for Meningitis will be performed by local singing trio Chameleon to raise much-needed funds for the charity Meningitis Now.

The musicians have taken inspiration from Adam Tuffrey, a young musician who previously played as their accompanist several years ago.

Chameleon spokesperson Anne Ponting said: “Having been seriously ill with meningitis as an infant, Adam became a keen fundraiser for the charity Meningitis Now, organising concerts at Bournemouth Pavilion and the Lighthouse and receiving the British Empire Medal whilst still a teenager.

“Adam is now a professional musician, but Chameleon continue to raise funds for the charity with an excellent new accompanist.”

The programme will be performed in two halves, entitled Sing Something Sinful (or Not the Adams Singers) and All At Sea (or Not Sir Henry Wood).

The band will embrace pieces from as far back as old-time music hall and as recent as Sir Tom Jones. Composers represented include Sir Arthur Sullivan, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Kurt Weil, Irving Berlin, Donald Swan and the ever-popular Anon.

Audience participation will be welcome, although its unlikely supporters will know the words to the 1930s song Fourteen Rollicking Sailors.

They will be supported by popular local band Jazz Off the Wall featuring the great voice of Andrea and the smooth guitar of Keith. There will also be a charity raffle.

Hordle Community Association has given free use of the Pavilion so all profits will go to the charity.

The Concert for Meningitis will take place at Hordle Pavilion at 2.30pm on Sunday 27th October. Tickets are £10 on the door.
