Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, Christchurch, Poole and Wimborne
INCREDIBLE adventures to some of the remotest corners of the globe feature in this year’s Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, which pops up at venues across the area this spring.
Now in its 16th year, the festival takes place each year at Banff in the Canadian Rockies, before a selection of the best entries are taken out on tour, with screenings due to take place in Christchurch, Poole and Wimborne.
The collection of short films follow the expeditions of some of today’s most incredible adventurers and adrenaline-packed action sports, with stunning cinematography.
Banff tour films are chosen from around 500 international entries into the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. This year’s collection includes skiing in Antarctica, wingsuit flying above Mont Blanc, climbing in Peru and many more extreme expeditions.
Tour director Nell Teasdale said: “Buckle up for a night of nail-biting adventure – from the comfort of a cinema seat!
“Join the world's top outdoor filmmakers and adventurers as they climb, ski, paddle, run and ride through the wildest corners of the planet. Plus, we guarantee you’ll leave inspired to have an adventure of your own too!”
One featured film highlights ultra-runner Courtney Dauwalter, who is regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the history of the sport. Refining the boundaries of trail running, in the film Courtney challenges herself to tackle three iconic 100-mile races back-to-back, including the legendary Tour du Mont Blanc in the Alps.
Meanwhile, Of A Lifetime follows three extreme skiers and snowboarders as they sail across the notorious Drake Passage to ride the unimaginably steep, icy lines of Antarctica. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the White Continent, the film also highlights a poignant passing of the adventure baton to the next generation.
The Banff Film Festival will be at the Regent Centre in Christchurch on 5th February and 1st May; at Lighthouse Theatre, Poole, on 28th and 29th March, and at Tivoli Theatre, Wimborne, on 6th February and 30th September. For more information and tickets, visit banff-uk.com
