The Wizard of Oz will be at Southampton Mayflower Theatre from 16th to 21st January featuring the original film’s Oscar winning score.
FEATURING the iconic original score from the Oscar-winning MGM film The Wizard of Oz, a new stage show will be at Southampton Mayflower Theatre next week.
Hailed as a sensational new production of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, the show comes to Southampton direct from the London Palladium.
It features a medley of iconic hits including Over The Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and We’re Off to See The Wizard as well as additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Based on the story by L. Frank Baum, the show will tour the UK and Ireland throughout 2024. The cast features RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner and Dancing on Ice finalist, The Vivienne (Wicked Witch of the West) alongside Aviva Tulley as Dorothy, Benjamin Yates (Emmerdale) as the Scarecrow, Nic Greenshields as the Cowardly Lion, Alex Bourne as the Wizard, Emily Bull as Glinda the Good Witch and Abigail Matthews as Toto.
The Vivienne is widely regarded as the UK’s top drag superstar, after emerging as champion of the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. In 2022, Viv’s TV career went global when she appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars All Winners on US TV.
Last year she made history as the first drag star to appear on a major UK reality competition series, competing in Dancing On Ice on ITV, making it all the way to the final three.
The classic musical story follows Dorothy, Toto, and her new found friends on an unforgettable adventure down the yellow brick road to the merry old land of Oz.
Directed by Nikolai Foster, Wizard of Oz features choreography by Shay Barclay, set design by Colin Richmond and costume and puppet design by Rachael Canning.
The Wizard of Oz will be at Mayflower Theatre from 16th to 21st January. Tickets are £29.50 to £54.50. To book visit www.mayflower.org.uk or call the box office on 023 8071 1811.
