The hits of ABBA and the Essence of Brahms will be celebrated by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in May




ICONIC James Bond themes, the hits of Abba and the Essence of Brahms will all be celebrated in Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concerts taking place across the region next month.

The Essence of Brahms featuring Wagner’s Lohengrin Prelude; Britten’s Violin Concerto No.1 and Brahms’ Symphony No.4 will be performed by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at Lighthouse Poole on Wednesday 7th May at 7.30pm.

The concert will be conducted by Mark Wigglesworth and showcase Clara-Jumi Kang on violin playing Britten’s Violin Concerto.

On Sunday 11th May the BSO voices will be in concert with Abbadabbadoo – the greatest hit of Abba at the O2 Guildhall, Southampton at 7pm. Promising symphonic renditions of everyone’s favourite Swedish pop classics the BSO Voices concert will includes the hits Dancing Queen, SOS, Thank You For The Music, The Winner Takes it All, Fernando, Waterloo, Super Trouper and many more. The concert is conducted by Pete Harrison. Tickets are from £9.50.

Then the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus will be at Lighthouse Poole on Wednesday 14th May at 7.30pm with Belshazzar’s Feast conducted by David Hill with Steven Osborne on piano. The programme begins with Bernstein’s West Side Story: Symphonic Dances, followed by Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Walton’s Belshazzar's Feast.

In 1929 the BBC asked Walton to write an oratorio for a small chorus, small orchestra and vocal soloist. But the end result was anything but small – it was a jazzy, perhaps slightly racy, shocker. Tickets are from £17.

The Best of Bond will provide the soundtrack for a concert at Lighthouse Poole on Saturday 17th May at 7.30pm. Featuring the themes from Dr No, For Your Eyes Only, Diamonds Are Forever, Skyfall, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, We Have All the Time in the World and many more, the BSO will be celebrating Britain’s most iconic superspy.

British conductor of international reputation David Arnold joins the orchestra for this concert alongside star of the West End Jacinta Whyte. Tickets from £14.
