Carrie Martin, Lighthouse Poole, Sherling Studio
SINGER-songwriter Carrie Martin who enjoys an international reputation for her finely crafted songs and expressive acoustic guitar playing, will be on stage at Lighthouse Poole later this month.
Mentored by instrumental guitarist Gordon Giltrap MBE, Carrie has attracted endorsements from Vintage Guitars, G7th Capos, Martin Strings and recently became an associate artist for Faith Guitars.
Her last three albums Seductive Sky, Entity and Evergreen have included guests Elliott Randall – best known for his session work with Steely Dan and Irene Cara among many others – her mentor Gordon Giltrap, Rick Wakeman’s son Oliver, Eva Cassidy’s brother Daniel, ex-Bad Company guitarist Dave Colwell, John Verity of Argent and Heart guitarist Roger Fisher.
Born in Hull, Carrie is still based in East Yorkshire, but has toured Canada and represented Vintage Guitars three times at the Namm Show music industry trade show in California. She also guests at various guitar shows around the UK to demonstrate her use of open tunings.
Carrie first picked up a guitar at the age of four and made her first public performance at the tender age of nine, playing at a school concert. She later played clubs alongside her father, who worked the circuit as a guitarist and vocalist.
In her teens she made a name for herself locally, with her songs played on local radio and performing live.
However, after getting married and becoming a mum to twin boys, she abandoned her guitar for two decades before she attended a Gordon Giltrap concert in 2011 where she was invited to step in as support act when the opening act backed out.
Encouraged enormously by Gordon, she played and sang a short set of cover versions and subsequently began reforging her music career.
In May 2023 Carrie appeared on stage at The Roses Theatre, Tewkesbury, alongside Gordon Giltrap MBE, Oliver Wakeman and Rick Wakeman CBE who described her as “phenomenal”.
Carrie Martin with support will be at Lighthouse Poole Sherling Studio on Saturday 31st August at 8pm. Tickets are £11. For more information and bookings visit www.lighthousepoole.co.uk or call the box office on 01202 280000.
