The family friendly New Forest Folk Festival at Plaitford will includes sets from Lindisfarne, Skippinish, Ralph Mitctell and Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble




HAILED as one of the UK’s friendliest music gatherings, New Forest Folk Festival will return to Plaitford, near Romsey, with a showcase of top national and local acts.

Taking place over five days, the family friendly festival features a line-up that includes sets from Lindisfarne, Skippinish, Ralph Mctell, Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, The Longest John's, Deborah Bonham Band, Rod Stewart's ex guitarist, songwriter and friend Jim Cregan, Track Dogs, TRADarrr, Mad Dog McRea, Reg Meuross, Chris Leslie, Banter and Ruth Angell.

Now in its 14th year, the music festival is put on by the Curtis family and friends on their family farm. It’s small, intimate and located to the north of the New Forest between Salisbury and Southampton.

Southampton’s Hobgoblin Music are sponsoring the local artist showcase on Thursday. Festival spokesperson Keith Curtis said: “As well as some of the finest folk musicians performing on the unique single rustic stage, other attractions include a delicious variety of food, cooled draught beer and real ale and cider.”

“There is an area set aside well away from the music stage called the Woodland Fringe with a large marquee for free workshops where you can learn songwriting and the playing of instruments plus meditation, yoga, ceilidh's, morris dancing and even the study of moths.”

Another tent will be dedicated to singarounds and poetry, with the popular John Row storytelling also returning. On Sunday morning festival-goers can join a church service in the woods.

Keith added: “Each morning for those looking to explore the local lanes and Plaitford Common as well as the 13th century village church there are conducted walks with a guide that can share some history.”

The New Forest Folk Festival runs from 2nd to 6th July. Adult five day tickets are £125 and children 5 to 15 years half price (under-5s free) Motorhomes, Caravans & Tents are £10 per pitch per night. For more information and to book tickets visit www.newforestfolkfestival.co.uk
