From our Files: Inhuman TV rules...vandalism spree...disappearing goslings

SOME caravan residents had expressed “horror” at what they considered the somewhat inhuman out-of-date site licence condition which New Forest District Council was about to impose on site owners.
Mr D Burdle, at Monday’s meeting of the council, handed in a petition from the occupiers of the caravans in his ward of Netley Marsh, and he successfully moved an amendment to the condition which would ban the use of televisions and radio sets after 11pm on caravan sites.
This meant they would only be banned if they proved a nuisance to other residents. Mr Burdle, who said he had been inundated with protests, stated that the caravan residents felt that certain of the conditions seemed to treat them as inferior and second-class citizens.
“They have asked me to point out, “continued Mr Burdle “that most of the people own the caravans in which they live and in some instances, these cost in the region of £6,000.”

POLICE are investigating a spate of vandalism which has hit the New Milton and Barton areas over the past few weeks. Latest incident was on Wednesday night when two seven-year-olds soaked the workmen’s rest room in the council yard in Manor Road with petrol and set fire to it, severely damaging the room with smoke and destroying a carpet and chairs. On the previous night at the yard the windows of a digger were smashed in.
Other vandalism which has incurred includes the smashing of windows in houses and greenhouses, damage to fences and the smashing of car headlamps and rear lights.
Another incident was when a large cable drum was rolled down the drive of a house in Barton, coming to rest only a few inches from a glass conservatory where an elderly lady and her family were sitting.

The new Lymington & New Milton club – formed a year ago with the move to Fawcett's Field, New Milton, after the old AFC Lymington vacated the Sports Ground at Lymington in order to meet top league standards – has won the Wessex League championship for the third successive season, and the fourth in six years.
Even so the club is not seeking Southern League status next season, preferring to ensure their facilities are in order before, hopefully, applying at the end of next season.
This picture, taken before their final match of the season, shows skipper Graham Kemp holding the cup.

AMID a veritable fanfare of publicity including the arrival of one of the Spice Girls, top London chef Jon Christophe Novelli returned to Gordleton Mill three weeks ago to become joint landlord of the Provence Restaurant with Bill Stone.
Just last week he said: “I think Gordleton Mill is one of the country’s charming hotels and I know everyone who comes will enjoy it.”
But the party is already over. The arrival of Novelli had seen the appearance of Baby Spice wearing only a bra for the opening celebrations.
But the heat in the kitchen appears to have soared as last weekend the kitchen was closed after the chef departed.
Novelli blamed problems over the terms of the lease. Mr Stone said he would be reopening the restaurant without him.

A HOUNSDOWN woman was ordered to spend a day in the cells at Lyndhurst police station in place of a fine.
New Forest magistrates imposed a £60 fine after the woman was found drunk and asleep in Totton.
But she told them she could not pay it so they told police to take her to the cells.
She had pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk in a public place. She had told a policeman she was sorry for “being a nuisance”.
At 5pm she was released from a cell after serving her sentence.

NEW Milton police have appealed for the public’s help over the disappearance of seven newly hatched goslings from Ballard Lake.
They particularly want to hear from anyone who saw a boy trying to catch the goslings in a fishing net.
