Future First by Lymington-based Assembled Moments comes to New Milton’s Forest Arts

YOUNG people from the New Forest are set to stage a futuristic eco play at New Milton’s Forest Arts.

Future First has been masterminded by Lymington-based physical theatre company Assembled Moments, which has offered local teenagers the chance to work alongside a professional theatre company and their production team.

Assembled Moments spokesperson Katie Spencer said: “Future First is a futuristic fantasy adventure set against the backdrop of climate change. The audience becomes virtual avatars as they follow Arden and True, two 15-year-old Variant participants, in a race against time.”

“With only 20 minutes to traverse two parallel worlds, they must find answers to the climate crisis before time travel devastates their bodies.

“Their journey, filled with challenges and revelations, brings them closer to crucial information needed to combat the crisis.”

Katie continued: “This unique production, created by young people in the New Forest working alongside professionals, highlights climate hope and emphasises the power of youth and collective action, inspiring audiences with the possibility of a better tomorrow.”

Future First director and writer Stacie Bates revealed that her experiences as a teacher led her to observe a “growing sense of hopelessness and despondency” among young people about climate change.

Stacie said: “My idea was to audition young actors for Assembled Youth Theatre and ask the students to become collaborators and indeed they have. Assembled Moments young actors have taken my play and devised around it to make it a better, truer, more exciting version of itself.”

Future First will be performed at New Milton’s Forest Arts on Wednesday 30th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are £4 for under 18s and £8 for adults. To book visit https://www.forest-arts.co.uk on 01425 619983.
