Hurst Castle in Milford launches summer activity trail, We’re going on a Royal Dog Hunt
Naughty royal dogs are the inspiration for a special family friendly summer trail at Hurst Castle in Milford.
The castle team has developed its own take on the famous children’s book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by running a We’re Going on a Royal Dog Hunt activity.
Visitors must find Henry VIII’s naughty dogs, who had a habit of running away along with other royal dogs.
The hunt will run throughout the holidays until Sunday 1st September. Participants are encouraged to bring along their dogs, and all furry visitors will be given a treat on completion.
As part of the challenge, people must find out the name of Charles I’s dog, who it is believed spent time with him at Hurst Castle before his execution.
Spokesperson Jason Crane said: “Who doesn’t love dogs? This activity is going to be hugely popular this summer. Families are going to love finding out fun facts about royal dogs, while also doing this with their own furry friend.”
Other activities taking place at the Milford attraction this summer include Tudor Tuesdays, in which visitors can enjoy Tudor-themed activities; Wildlife Wednesdays, giving information on wildlife found on Hurst Spit; and Fun Fridays, including dressing up, outdoor toys and face painting.
Henry VIII will be visiting the castle and causing much merriment on Tuesdays 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August.
All activities are included in the normal admission price. Hurst Castle is open daily from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Visitors can get to Hurst Castle by ferry from Keyhaven every 20 to 30 minutes.
