Letter: Highlighting the horrific plight of innocent victims in Gaza

I would like to commend your 8th November edition for its front page article, highlighting the desperate situation in Gaza.

It was profoundly shocking and moving to read the account by Professor Nizam Mamode of his month volunteering in a Gaza hospital.

Because, for the most part, foreign journalists are barred from entering Gaza, we are dependent on such courageous and dedicated witnesses as Professor Mamode to open our eyes to the horrific plight of countless innocent civilians – witnesses who have no political axe to grind but speak from the depths of human compassion.

November 12th marked the 30-day deadline issued by the US government for Israel to increase considerably its humanitarian aid into Gaza. Let’s hope and pray that we see a significant response, and best of all, an urgently needed ceasefire sooner rather than later.
