Letter: ‘Politicians of all persuasions have a difficult enough time as it is.’




There is one aspect to this election campaign that is distasteful and should be highlighted whenever it occurs.

An example appeared in a letter published by the Daily Telegraph in which the writer described a leading candidate as “a promoter of chaos” and “seeking to fulfill his selfish ambitions by dressing them up as conservative principles”.

The newspaper allowed the letter writer to indulge in a personal attack that had nothing to do with truth or reality and should not in my opinion have been published.

Politicians of all persuasions have a difficult enough time as it is, and personal attacks are on the rise. This election is unique in that we are being forced to ask serious questions about our democracy and its possible consequences on our society.

Cheap personal attacks we can do without.
