Milton Musical Society’s Sister Act comes to Regent Centre, Christchurch
FEEL-good comedy fun is guaranteed as Milton Musical Society bring the flamboyant show Sister Act to Christchurch Regent Centre.
Based on the 1992 smash hit musical comedy that has audiences jumping to their feet, the show features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors).
The story begins when disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder and is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found: a convent.
Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
MMS spokesperson Jess Barras said: “Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act is a musical show that will enchant audiences.”
“The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages, making this a perfect choice for high schools and community theatres. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is a reason to rejoice.”
Now in its 57th Year, Milton Musical Society is friendly and welcoming amateur theatrical group specialising in musical theatre performance. Members are aged between eight and 80 with many roles also available for those who don’t want appear on stage.
