Wonderful World comes to Thorney Hill Community Centre, and Sam O’Shanty set for Bramshaw Village Hall

TALES of intrepid explorers and sea shanties will entertain families in Thorney Hill and Bramshaw as part of a programme of live performances in communities across the New Forest.

Organised by Acting Up as part of Culture in Common, the first event will see the acclaimed Squashbox Theatre embark on a globetrotting adventure at Thorney Hill Community Centre.

In Wonderful World the audience will cross continents, encounter strange and wonderful creatures, meet crazy characters, and learn facts about geography, ecosystems, climate, language and navigation along the way.

Families can also discover the things that connect us and make us all a part of this Wonderful World with a blend of ingenious puppetry, fantastic facts, silly slapstick, crazy comedy and marvellous live music. The show is suitable for ages four and above, and after the show, families can also take part in a puppet making workshop (bookable for £3 per child).

Later on in half-term week, Angel Heart Theatre and Rattlebox will be at Bramshaw Village Hall with a nautical-inspired comic adventure aimed at families.

Sam O’Shanty has lived his whole life at sea, ever since he first stowed aboard ship when he was just a wee scrap of a lad. Since then, he has sailed all the seven seas, from Devonport to Durban Bay, from Nantucket to New Guinea, from Cape Wrath to the Cape of Good Hope. But now Sam has come ashore with his two shipmates, Davy Lad and Sonny Jim, and together they have all manner of marvellous tales to share.

They will share stories of beguiling mermaids and batty sea witches, dastardly Blackbeard’s comeuppance, and tangled yarns of hidden booty and beasts of the deep.

Sam O’ Shanty is at Bramshaw Village Hall at 10.30am on Thursday 20th February. Tickets are £8 for adults and £5 for children (family tickets £20).
