What’s On: Chris de Burgh 50th Anniversary Tour, Bournemouth Pavilion

SINGER Chris De Burgh is set to visit Bournemouth later this month as part of his 50th anniversary tour.

Chris will be at the Pavilion Theatre with his 50LO show on Wednesday 26th February and we’ve teamed up with the venue to give one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of tickets - see last week’s paper.

Over the course of his singing career, the star has achieved worldwide album sales in excess of 45 million, performed approaching 4,000 concerts globally and, perhaps more remarkably than anything else, continued to make his music, his way for his loyal followers.

He says: “Without the love and support of my audience I would never have had such a long career.”

The foundations for his remarkable career were laid back in 1975 with the release of Chris’ debut album, ‘Far Beyond These Castle Walls’, featuring the single, ‘Flying’, which spent 17 weeks at number one in Brazil.

But it was Chris’s 1986 album Into The Light which propelled him to superstardom with the single The Lady In Red, which was a number one hit in 47 countries, including the UK.

By 1990, Chris’ German popularity meant he was the only international artist to be invited by then Chancellor Kohl to perform at the historic public celebrations marking the re-unification of East and West Germany.

Having produced 22 studio albums, Chris’ extensive repertoire of songs has taken his audience on travels through continents, cultures and centuries - in cinematic proportion.

Chris said: ”I was incredibly naive about the music business but I was full of hope and dreams and, spectacularly, my dreams not only came true, they came truer than true. I had no concept that I was going to last as long as this. Fifty years? Wow!”

Chris de Burgh will be at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre with his 50LO show on Wednesday 26th February. Tickets are priced from £56, or for a chance to win a pair see our What’s on Competition on page ??.
