What’s On: End of the Road Festival, Larmer Tree Gardens

EVERYTHING from experimental pop and punk, to thought-provoking literature and DJs will share the spotlight at this year’s End of the Road Festival.

Founded in 2006, the End Of The Road will mark its 18th festival in the grounds of Larmer Tree Gardens on the Dorset-Wiltshire border, this year welcoming around 13,500 attendees across the weekend. The festival boosts five stages, and will feature over 100 live music performances as well a busy comedy and literature programme and an eclectic array of the best independent food and drink stalls.

This year’s line-up blends big names, such as Idles, and rapidly rising stars from post-punk to experimental pop, showcasing the best in alternative music. Previously announced headliners include Idles, Slowdive, Fever Ray and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.

A festival spokesperson revealed: “One of Sheffield’s most beloved sons, Richard Hawley will fit seamlessly into the pantheon of brilliant artists performing this year, with his Yorkshire croon a perfect accompaniment for the setting sun. Effortlessly cool, Lætitia Sadier makes music that takes a sophisticated approach to experimentation.”

“Altın Gün are celebrated for their totally unique brand of Anatolian rock and Turkish psychedelic folk, which will be a perfect accompaniment to the hazy days of late summer.”

The full spectrum of punk will be well represented with new additions being led by Brooklyn art-punks Gustaf bringing razor edge cool, US synth-punks Sextile with their cavernous reverb and middle-finger-throwing Brighton post-punks Lambrini Girls bringing their famously incendiary live show to Larmer Tree Gardens.

Electronic music lovers can soak in the warped sounds of Chanel Beads, as the project of Shane Lavers delivers his raw sonics and eclectic structures, whilst Brooklyn duo H31R bring their rhythmically intricate, electronic rap, defying genre with their futuristic tunes.

New band The None, formed of lifelong musicians including former Bloc Party bassist Gordon Moakes, showcase their uncompromising noise rock, whilst the sad clown balladry of NiCKY will also feature. The festival will also showcase the winners of this year's festival talent competition: Somoh, OTG and Me Lost Me.
