What’s On: Jubilee Singers Christmas Concerts, St Mary Magdalene Church and New Milton Community Centre

THE Jubilee Singers are set to bring their annual Christmas Concert to two New Milton venues during December.

The concerts are set to feature the usual a mixture of sacred and secular numbers, highlighting composers as diverse as Leonard Cohen, Jerry Herman, John Rutter and Mendelssohn. There will also be carols traditional and modern, and contributions from Germany, the US and Besancon in France. Audience participation, as always, will be welcome.

The special concerts will be the under the direction of Janet Trow, who is set to hang up her baton after 20 years.

Janet said: “No-one is certain when this friendly choir was founded – the name Jubilee Singers doesn’t refer to any royal anniversary but to the room in the community centre where they first rehearsed.”

However, Janet will continue singing enthusiastically among the sopranos next year under the direction of their pianist Leigh Jerwood.

The first concert will at New Milton Community Centre on Wednesday 11th December at 2pm. The second is set for St Mary Magdalene’s in Church Lane on Sunday 15th December at 2pm, with the proceeds split equally between choir and church. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children and are available from New Milton Community Centre. Refreshments are included in the ticket price, and each concert will also feature a raffle.

Those interested in joining the Jubilee Singers can contact Janet on 01425 619062, or come to the first rehearsal at the New Milton Community Centre on Wednesday 22nd January at 2pm.
