What’s On: Mark Shaw, Then Jerico, Forest Arts, New Milton
EIGHTIES hit maker Mark Shaw, the lead singer of Then Jerico, will play an acoustic set at Forest Arts in New Milton on Saturday 2nd September.
The songwriter, producer and band founder, will be accompanied by solo acoustic guitarist Ollie Brum to perform the band’s hit singles and selected tracks from his studio albums, including Let Her Fall, Muscle Deep and the classic, The Motive, which spent 14 weeks in the UK charts and was the highest-played record on BBC Radio One in 1987.
Other hits will include Big Area, What Does it Take? and Sugar Box from 1989’s platinum-selling album The Big Area Outside, and Love So Bright from his 1991 album Almost.
Then Jerico first found fame in 1987 with the release of their debut album First (The Sound Of Music), which featured the hit singles Muscle Deep and The Motive, which remained in the UK Top 40 chart for three months. The track brought Then Jerico worldwide recognition and saw them selling-out headline shows along with support tours with Iggy Pop and Propaganda, amongst others.
Their follow-up album, The Big Area, sold more than 100,000 copies within the first 40-minutes of its release, immediately attaining Gold status and consequently reached Platinum sales.
Mark said: “I can’t wait to return to these superb venues – the atmosphere is always amazing and acoustic shows are my favourites as they allow me to personally connect with the audience and re-explore my songs in a unique way.”
The Then Jerico Acoustic featuring Mark Shaw and Ollie Brum includes percussive loops created live so each show is different and unique. The duo will perform two 45-minute sets.
Tickets are priced £25 but we’ve teamed up with Mark Shaw and Then Jerico to give away two pairs of tickets in this week’s What’s On competition on page 15.
