What’s On: Mary Poppins in the New Forest, Sway Village Hall
THE magical world of Mary Poppins is the inspiration for a brand new carnival special production by Sway Drama Club.
Mary Poppins in the New Forest is written by villager Simon Hanney, and has called on the talents of cast members and creatives from four local drama groups.
Simon said: “As part of Sway Carnival, and after an absence of many years, Sway Drama Club are putting on a brand new, never been seen before production. Myself and my partner Clare have written a new Mary Poppins adventure, inspired by the original PL Travers characters.”
The production has become such a family affair even Simon’s dog Wigwam has stepped forward to make his acting debut, along with his daughter.
The cast of 20 includes members of New Forest Players, Lymington Players, Sway Drama Club and Brockenhurst Village Hall Drama Group, with the show billed as a family friendly production packed full of familiar uplifting songs. Each half is around 35 minutes, making it ideal for all generations.
Simon added: “This year’s carnival theme is ‘animation’ and we have strived to include several different types of animation in our very special magical production. The cast ranges from primary school to retired ages, and the rehearsals have had a great atmosphere and team effort.
“It is a magical world of crocodiles, unicorns, princesses and the loveable Mary herself. There will be three performances of about one-and-a-half hours including an interval.”
Mary Poppins in the New Forest will be at Sway Village Hall for three performances at 11am, 3pm and 7pm on Sunday 30th June. Tickets are £10 adults and £5 children.
All proceeds from the show will go towards local good causes. To book visit https://tinyurl.com/yp75wtzm
