Singer David Gray to mark Curlew Action day with Beaulieu appearance

MULTI-PLATINUM performer David Gray is set to appear at Beaulieu’s Countryside Education Trust in an event to mark World Curlew Action Day on Friday 21st April.

As patron of the Curlew Action charity, Gray is passionate about ensuring rare ground-nesting birds have a future in Great Britain.

He will appear alongside award-winning author and conservationist Mary Colwell, and Wild New Forest director Russell Wynn.

Set to take place in the Countryside Education Trust’s Treehouses venue, located within ancient woodland on the Beaulieu Estate, the special evening will celebrate curlews and other ground-nesting birds and help promote their conservation.

Prof. Wynn said “We are incredibly fortunate to still hold a population of breeding curlews in the New Forest, as they are in steep decline nationally.

“Every summer we also host a wide variety of other nationally rare ground-nesting birds such as nightjar and woodlark.

“This event will help to celebrate and promote the conservation of our special birdlife, including actions the public can take to help minimise disturbance.

“It’s fantastic that David Gray has agreed to perform and to share his passion for curlews, conservation, and youth engagement with Mary, and so I hope the local community can come along and support the event and help raise money for our chosen charities.”

Singer-songwriter Gray released his first album in 1993 and went on to receive worldwide attention after the release of White Ladder six years later.

This album became the fifth best-selling album of the 2000s, and was ranked as the 10th best-selling album of the 21st century in the United Kingdom in October 2019.

It was the first of three UK chart-toppers in six years for Gray.

Tickets are £50 and include drinks and canapes. All profits will go to Curlew Action and the Countryside Education Trust. Visit bit.ly/3nlZa4Z
