£3.4million boost for Ringwood football facilities project to help future Lionesses
A £3.4million project to improve football facilities in Ringwood will see “new opportunities” offered to women and girls.
NFDC, Ringwood Town Council and AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust are working together to create “great facilities for future Lionesses”, as well as for disabled and elderly players.
The district council has contributed £535,000 towards the project.
A 3G artificial turf pitch has already been laid at the Ringwood community hub in Long Lane, Kingston, and is being enjoyed by football teams.
A new two-storey pavilion which will house changing rooms, offices and a club house is currently being built.
Cllr Dan Poole, portfolio holder for community, safety and wellbeing, said: “As part of the development, we’ll see more opportunities for women’s and girl’s football, disability football and walking football.
“We also hope to see wider community focused programmes such as community safety initiatives and cognitive reminiscence sessions.”
Steve Cuss, head of AFC Bournemouth community sports trust, added: “We are really pleased to be working with New Forest District Council on this project, and excited to begin the next phase of development within Ringwood.
“The pavilion will offer a great football and community setting that can be enjoyed by existing players and new participants, who will be able to take part in a variety of activities onsite covering education, physical activity, inclusive programmes and social opportunities.”
