Lymington Coastguard ‘legend’ Peter Brown awarded for 50 years of service
A LYMINGTON Coastguard rescue officer was hailed a “legend” as he was honoured for 50 years’ service.
Peter Brown was belatedly presented with a medal and certificate marking the half-century milestone, having served with the team since 1973 as his career and as a volunteer.
Having joined as an auxiliary, he became a full-time employee in 1978 and had various roles over the years.
These ranged from management and operations room watch manager to training and managing the helicopter programme.
From 2008, Peter returned to frontline search and rescue (SAR) with Lymington Coastguard where he continued to serve for 16 years.
Assistant chief coastguard Richard Hackwell presented the accolade during a recent ceremony at Lymington Town Sailing Club.
Expressing gratitude for Peter’s contribution, he said: “Peter’s 50 years of service is a remarkable achievement and a testament to his dedication and professionalism. We are incredibly grateful for his tireless commitment.”
Calling Peter a “legend”, Lymington deputy station officer Paul Richman praised his unwavering commitment over the decades.
"Peter’s achievements stand as a testament to the values of teamwork, resilience, and service that the coastguard embodies,” he said.
