Mum praises people of Ringwood for their support after house fire kills her two pets
A DEVASTATED mum lost her two beloved pets in a fire that wrecked her home and left her with “just a carry bag” of belongings.
Kaileid Morey returned home from work on 6th July to find it on fire. Her cat Eddie was already dead and her one-year-old Rottweiler Margot badly injured.
She said: “As soon as I stepped inside, I could smell smoke and realised the house had been smouldering for hours.
“Sadly, it was too late for both my pets to be saved, they had been overcome by smoke and fumes.
“I rushed Margot to Cedar vets where she received treatment, but sadly there was nothing more they could do for her.
“It’s been absolutely heartbreaking. Margot was very well known in the area, and we loved both pets so much.”
Ms Morey, who works as a teaching assistant at Ringwood School, is now living in the Premier Inn in the town with her 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.
She says she has been “absolutely overwhelmed” by the amount of help and support she has received from the local community since her rented home on the Bisterne estate was wrecked.
A fundraising webpage has already collected over £2,000 and she says “total strangers” have rushed to her aid.
Ms Morey said: “Starting with the fire brigade, everyone has been absolutely fantastic. The local community of Ringwood have pulled together to help us, and I just can’t thank them enough.
“We have been left with just a carry bag full of belongings, but people have been donating clothes and all sorts to us.
“Teachers at the school set up a fundraising page for us and we have received so many messages of support from all sorts of people.
“Staff at the Premier Inn have been wonderful, constantly checking that we are alright.
“Everyone has been a constant source of light in the darkest of my and my children’s lives.”
Ms Morey said she was told by the fire brigade that the fire was caused by a cooker hood and that it had been smouldering “for hours”.
She was “eternally grateful” that it happened while the house was empty and said her children have been “just total heroes”.
She added: “They have lost virtually everything but have been so strong.
“It has been a really awful time but the way Ringwood has turned out for us has been absolutely marvellous.”
