Two ponies died after being hit on the B3054 in the New Forest
TWO ponies died in a single crash on a New Forest road last Monday.
One mare was killed at the scene of the collision on the B3054 at Meadows Cross and a second mare had to be destroyed due to the severity of its injuries.
The accident was reported to the verderers around 4pm and agister Mike Lovell attended.
Verderer’s clerk Sue Westwood reminded motorists to be alert on the New Forest roads as accidents are very upsetting for both commoners and the drivers involved.
She said: “It is difficult to know exactly what we can say – except to just keep repeating the same message to drivers: please slow down and expect to meet livestock on the roads day and night.
“They do not have road sense or any awareness of the dangers, so it is up to the drivers to change their behaviour.”
