Friends of New Milton Station to unveil special mural celebrating facility and town’s growth for 200th anniversary of Britain’s railways

A SPECIAL mural commemorating New Milton railway station’s launch nearly 140 years ago and the town’s subsequent creation is set to be unveiled.

Conservation group the Friends of New Milton Station has created the artwork as part of local celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of railways in Britain.

Set for a grand unveiling at the station on Saturday 15th March, it will reflect its 1886 construction, changes in rail travel over the years and New Milton’s development.

All are invited to the event at midday, when there will be music from the Sangrose Ensemble and cakes provided by the WI. There will also be whistles for the children.

Friends volunteer Nicky Judd has been putting the mural together, and Sign Envy will apply it as a giant vinyl for permanent display on the northern station approach.

Nick Saunders from Milton Heritage Society was thanked for his historical research, and local companies Bashley Landscaping, Mitchells, Pure Kitchens & Carpentry, and The Tower Radio praised for sponsorship.

Friends chair Mandy Hayes said: “This was one of the first ideas we had for the station when we set up the Friends in May last year and we are all very excited to finally see our vision come to fruition.

“We hope that it will become a well-loved feature in New Milton.”
