Application to keep pet crematorium in Marchwood farm
AN application has been submitted to keep a pet crematorium created in a barn on a farm in Marchwood.
Plans by Mr and Mrs Forder, from Home Farm, said they had turned the “redundant” structure into the funeral facility and also built an office nearby in March this year.
The building has been transformed into a crematorium with the equipment installed, but is not yet in operation.
Adjacent to a larger barn which houses cows, the smaller one has not been in use for “some years”, according to plans.
There would be an increase in traffic to and from the site to about three vehicles per weekday.
It would run four to five hours a day, said the application to the national park authority, with expected fumes and emissions within permitted limits.
Dead animals would not be stored on-site overnight, it said, adding there was a “real requirement” for it in the area.
The facility would not be visible from the road, it noted.
