Driver arrested after elderly pedestrian badly hurt in collision which shut Romsey Road, High Street and Gosport Lane in Lyndhurst for hours




A motorist was arrested after a collision left an elderly pedestrian badly injured and closed the main route through Lyndhurst.

Police and paramedics responded after the casualty, a woman in her 90s, was struck on Gosport Lane by a silver Citroen C3, which had turned from the High Street, around 4.30pm last Friday.

She suffered a serious injury to her pelvis, according to a spokesperson for the Hampshire force.

Officers arrested a 54-year-old man from Bursledon on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and drink-driving.

He was later released under investigation.

Major disruption followed as the one-way system, including Romsey Road, High Street and Gosport Lane was shut.

Thanking those affected for their patience, the spokesperson said: “We are keen to hear from anyone with information which may assist our investigation, in particular anyone with dash cam footage of the collision.”
