Arrests after 3am disturbance involving catapult and threats to kill
TWO men were arrested after a disturbance in Pennington in the early hours, in which catapults were fired and threats to kill were made.
Police responded to a call-out to an address in Howards Mead around 3.15am on Sunday amid reports vehicles were being damaged.
Witnesses told officers two men had been threatening violence and using the catapults to cause injury as well as damage.
The suspects were tracked down in Wiltshire on Monday.
Both men, a 25-year-old from Lymington and a 30-year-old from Salisbury, were arrested on suspicion of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, affray and making threats to kill.
They have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Posting on social media, local neighbourhood Sgt Katrina Smith said the pair’s bail conditions banned them from entering Howards Mead. She also sent out a message to those who might seek to commit such offences.
“As the sergeant for the areas I will make it quite clear that if you come to Lymington or New Milton and think that it is a safe bet to cause misery and carnage to the community then my team will be knocking on your door and taking robust action,” Sgt Smith wrote.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Those with information about the incident should contact Hampshire officers on 101, quoting crime reference number 44200312785, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
