Bashley under-16 girls celebrate with first-ever victory
Hants U16 Girls League: Alresford Town 2-6 Bashley FC
AFTER being formed less than 18 months ago and consisting of keen ladies with no previous experience and now playing in a competitive league for the first time, Bashley U16 girls have recorded their first win away at Alresford.
From the kick-off, both teams were looking for the opening goal. With end-to-end action, the deadlock was finally broken when Alresford hit the back of the net first.
Bashley’s equaliser came just five minutes later when a Bashley cross came in, and Libby Harrison popped up at the far post to slot home. The visitors went ahead after a great solo goal from Edyth Shinn.
However, Alresford got back into the game just before half-time when they beat the offside trap and scored.
In the second half, Bashley upped the tempo and went on the attack. Bashley’s confidence grew as the game went on, and Shinn grabbed her second.
The hosts came back at Bashley, but the visitors’ defence held firm with several excellent saves from Honey Batchelor. The visitors put the game beyond doubt as Shinn returned to grab three more goals to give her side a convincing first victory in the league.
Bashley move into third with the 6-2 win and have lost only once in their first four games.
