New Forest District Council begins to clear yacht remains from Milford beach over a month after it was wrecked

WORK to remove the wreckage of a yacht which ran aground on a Milford beach more than a month ago has begun.

As reported, the occupant of stricken vessel got into difficulty around 40 metres from the rocky shoreline on Friday 28th March, leading to an RNLI rescue operation.

The one sailor on board was subsequently brought up to the beach safely, but the lifeboat crew were unable to safely tow the yacht away from the rocks.

Dubbed by villagers as ‘the wreck of Milford’, debris from the incident has been strewn across the beach, prompting a series of complaints to the parish council, which confirmed it was the responsibility of New Forest District Council.

A digger was seen removing the wreck at around 7.30am today (Thursday). Resident Peter Lillington told the A&T: “Better late than never.

“Assuming the diggers were required to remove the remains that had been covered by one metre of shingle, having been in place for too long. Ideally removal should have happened within a few days.”
