Brockenhurst Church of England primary and pre-school given ‘good’ grade by Ofsted
The head of a New Forest village school is celebrating its ‘good’ Ofsted report saying it shows “how our wonderful children shone through”.
In the report on Brockenhurst Church of England primary and pre-school, an inspector revealed how “pupils arrive at school excited to see what the day will bring. Classrooms are a buzz of focused study and activity.”
It added their behaviour was also “highly impressive” in and out of the classroom saying: “Pupils behave extremely well, showing beautiful manners.
“Pupils firmly believe in treating others as they would like to be treated, kind and tolerant of others.
The inspectors also praised staff saying children’s well-being was “prioritised” by teachers who “celebrate pupils’ positive behaviour at all opportunities”.
The report revealed: ”When teachers talk, pupils listen attentively.
“Pupils learn from a broad curriculum and achieve well.”
The only criticism the inspector had was that in some subjects “leaders have not yet precisely identified and sequenced the detailed knowledge that they want pupils to learn”.
It also said that when dealing with the curriculum, teachers did not always “check precisely the knowledge and skills that pupils can remember long term”.
“This means that they are not always able to adapt planning to address gaps in knowledge to ensure that pupils can build, understanding securely.”
In a statement, John Littlewood, headteacher at the school, praised its pupils: “Their attitude to learning and each other fantastic.
“We are so extremely proud of everyone and want to recognise the hard work and commitment of the whole staff team.
“The report contains many references to the special culture and ethos we have all created together. A real destination for learning.
“Staff and governors are committed to working together with our parents, children and the local community to ensure Brockenhurst CE school and pre-school continues to be a place where there is real ambition, all children learn well, and their broader development is prioritised.”
