Body found in search for missing jetskier
A BODY has been found in the search for a missing jetskier who disappeared after leaving Lymington a week ago.
Elezaj Shkelzen’s family has been informed of the discovery, which was made near Ryde Pier, Isle of Wight, at around 11am yesterday (Monday), although the body’s identity is yet to be officially confirmed.
Hampshire police has said a missing person investigation is continuing.
Mr Shkelzen was reported missing after last being seen setting off from the town’s coast at 6pm last Tuesday, heading towards Langstone Harbour.
As reported in the A&T, the coastguard found the 33-year-old Oxfordshire man’s jetski abandoned in the water off Stokes Bay two hours later, sparking fears for his safety.
The white-and-burgundy Yamaha Waverunner, with a ‘201 Langstone Harbour’ sticker, had its killcord detached, and a mobile phone was also on board.
A major search of the area has been carried out by a raft of local rescue teams from across the area.
Police released Mr Shkelzen’s name, picture and description last Thursday as they appealed for the public help to locate him.
The body is understood to have been found following a joint operation involving Hampshire police, the search-and-rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent and the Hill Head Coastguard Rescue Team.
A force spokesperson said yesterday: “A man’s body has been found in the Solent.
“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of missing Elezaj Shkelzen have been informed.
“At this time, a missing person investigation is still ongoing with regards to Elezaj.”
Mr Shkelzen was described as wearing a light grey and white hoody, dark Adidas shorts and a camouflage waterproof jacket. He may have had an orange lifejacket with him.
