BOURNEMOUTH 7s founder Roger Woodall has announced this year’s event is cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As previously reported in the A&T, the rugby festival changed dates from the late May bank holiday weekend to the 28th-30th August. However, due to the current situation of the organisers have had to cancel the event.

In a statement, Woodall said: “We are absolutely gutted to announce that we have no choice but to cancel Bournemouth 7s Festival 2020.

“We tried everything we could to keep the festival alive. Every day has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but we conceded that it wouldn’t be right to carry on.

He added: “If I’m being honest, I’ve found it very hard to make this announcement; I’d held on to a hope that Boris (Johnson) and his colleagues may find a way for events to go ahead.

“On a positive note, the few days since we made our decision have given our small team the opportunity to reflect on how many laughs and great experiences we have created for everyone over the past decade and re-focus our energies on 2021.”

Bournemouth 7s will return to Chapel Gate next year on 28th-30th May.
