Brockenhurst beat Lymington to win New Forest football bragging rights
BROCKENHURST leaped five places up the Sydenhams Premier table to 13 after condemning their Lymington hosts to their sixth successive league defeat on Tuesday.
Since Lymington’s FA Cup run ended in a fanfare TV appearance against Torquay United the magic seems to have evaporated at the Sports Ground, with a season that promised so much looking in tatters.
Brockenhurst deservedly took local bragging rights with a 2-0 win thanks to two well taken goals within three minutes half way through the first half. The victory sets the Badgers up well for their FA Vase tie against Bradford Town this Saturday at Grigg Lane.
Matt Casey and Mo Nyang were the Brock scorers in the 22 and 25 minute respectively. The first goal the result of slack Lymington marking.
Mike Gosney was heavily involved for Lymington and their best chance fell to Tim Stephenson who scuffed his shot straight at keeper Matt Taylor from five yards out. It was Badgers keeper Taylor’s first game back and he was well protected by imposing centre back Mat Burt and was rarely troubled in securing a clean sheet.
The game was frustratingly stop-start as it was punctuated by numerous seemingly needless bookings.
Badgers boss Pat McManus told the A&T: “ I was pleased with the result and the performance, particularly of Leon Carbayo-Borges who was a constant threat.
“A dominant first half display put us in control. I thought Lymington responded in the second half, but we coped with that and could have extended the lead further, but for some excellent stops from Nic Jones.
“Hopefully we will bring that level of performance into the FA vase on Saturday against Bradford Town.”
