Totton's Nationwide branch set to close two days a week

NATIONWIDE building society in Totton has confirmed it will close for two days of the week.

The branch in the precinct will be shut on Mondays and Wednesdays from Monday 19th June.

It will remain open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as normal.

Nationwide said the change will "enable our branch colleagues to help members on the phone".

A spokesperson said: "As a mutual we want to provide our members with distinctive service. This means our colleagues being where they are most needed to serve our members.

"There are no job losses and we are not closing the branch.

"We are making the change so we are able to serve more people more quickly and keep branches on the high street."

Totton councillor David Harrison, one of the branch's customers, said Nationwide claimed there had been a fall in face-to-face transactions.

But he added: "However, it has always been busy whenever I have visited and I think it benefits hugely from being one of the last remaining facilities left in Totton."
