AN application has been given the go-ahead to demolish a bungalow in Christchurch and erect a block of flats.

Anders Robers and Associates had proposed five one-bedroom and one two-bedroom apartments in Darwin Avenue. The building will be two storeys high and made of red brick with white render and grey cladding. The site will also have car parking and cycle storage.

BCP Council approved the plans although a planning officer commented that the “proposed building would represent a significant change to the existing appearance of the site, in terms of the street scene”.

But it was felt that the mixed design of the development would mean it could be “accommodated within the area without detrimental impact on the character”.
