Burglar chased from home as three properties hit by daylight raids

RESIDENTS chased an intruder they found in their home in a burglary which is being linked with two others in the New Forest on the same day.

Police responded to a call-out to break-in in Dibden Purlieu at around 10.45am on Saturday, following reports the victims had returned to their address in Watermans Lane to find the offender had forced their way inside.

He was chased from the property and down the street but the man managed to escape in a silver Ford Mondeo having stolen a haul of jewellery.

He was described as white, in his late 20s, about 5ft 11in tall, very skinny, with short ginger or brown hair, and wearing a black cap, black jogging trousers and a black hoodie.

A post by local police on social media the following evening said: “The residents of a house on Watermans Lane returned home at 10am and found a man inside.

“They chased him down Watermans Lane and he got into a silver Ford Mondeo near its junction with Beaulieu Road, and the car then drove off towards the Tesco garage.”

In a second incident on the same day jewellery was snatched after entry was forced at an address in Addison Road, Brockenhurst, shortly before midday.

Police were alerted to the third break-in shortly after noon when a neighbour reported seeing a suspect leaving a property in Sway Road. Nothing was believed to have been taken.

A search of the area was launched, supported by a helicopter from the National Police Air Service, but officers found no trace of the offender.

Investigations into the three burglaries are ongoing, and people are being urged to come forward if they saw any suspicious activity.
