Concerns for welfare of man on bridge see police shut stretch of Avon Causeway at Hurn




Police shut a stretch of the busy Avon Causeway at Hurn today as they responded to concerns for the welfare of a man on a nearby bridge.

Called out shortly after 11am, officers were joined by paramedics and firefighters at the scene.

The closures were put in place around 11.15am and lifted around midday once the man had been “taken to receive the appropriate care”.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received a report at 11.04am on Monday 20th January 2025 raising concern for the welfare of a man on a bridge in the area of Avon Causeway.

“Officers attended alongside the fire and ambulance services and road closures were put in place.

“The man was taken to receive the appropriate care.”

Fire crews from Christchurch and Springbourne responded but were not needed on arrival.
