SGN hosting public drop-in session over closure of Walkford Road for 14 weeks
A PUBLIC drop-in session is being held to answer questions as about 14 weeks of “essential” gas works is set to cause disruption in Walkford.
Gas company SGN has announced Walkford Road will be closed between its junctions with Walkford Lane and Hurst Road from 28th April.
This is to replace a gas main along the route.
SGN spokesperson Bradley Barlow said: “These essential works involve replacing the old metal medium-pressure metal gas pipe with a new plastic pipe to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and efficient gas supply and avoid further gas escapes in the future.”
The position of the main and the need to ensure everyone’s safety were given as reasons for the closure.
There will be no through vehicle traffic in either direction, with a signed diversion route set to be in place.
The junction of Walkford Lane (right hand fork with Walkford Road/Gore Road) will be closed at its junction with Gore Road, meaning vehicles can only turn left onto Gore Road.
The Chewton Farm Road junction with Walkford Road will also be shut, with access in and out of Chewton Farm Road being from Ringwood Road.
SGN promised vehicle access for residents within the closure will be maintained, with affected residents to be kept informed by the on-site team.
Bus passengers are urged to check with their service provider for latest updates and changes as routes will be affected.
The distributor stressed the upcoming work is additional to the previous installation of a low-pressure pipe. It added both could not be replaced at the same time in order to maintain local gas supplies.
Today (Monday) SGN is holding an information event from 3pm to 7pm at The Amberwood Inn on Ringwood Road, Walkford.
Mr Barlow continued: “We understand our work may be disruptive but please be assured our engineers will be doing everything they can to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
