Car involved in fatal crash on A326 at Totton was stolen and had cloned plates, police reveal
A CAR involved in a fatal crash on a Forest route was stolen and had cloned plates, police have revealed.
The A326 at Totton was shut in both directions between the A35 and Fletchwood Road last Thursday after the collision between a lorry and a silver Peugeot 107 at the junction with Monkton Lane at around 3am.
Police investigating the crash have confirmed the Peugeot had a cloned licence plate and was stolen from Fordingbridge car park Round Hill on 23rd December last year.
Officers said a second vehicle may have been in the area at the time of the crash – with the occupants potential witnesses – but left before emergency services attended.
As reported in the A&T, despite efforts from the emergency services the driver of the car, a 51-year-old man from Christchurch, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A police spokesperson said: “If anyone has information regarding ether of these vehicles please call 101 quoting reference number 44240247966.”
