Engleburn Care Home in New Milton inspected by Care Quality Commission

Concerns over safeguarding, falls and infection control at a New Milton care home have been dispelled following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Engleburn Care Home in Milford Road, which has capacity for 76 residents, was visited on 19th May.

A report by the CQC said the service had last been inspected in 2021.

It said: “This inspection was prompted by a review of the information we held about this service and some specific concerns we received around safeguarding, falls and infection control. As a result, we undertook a focused inspection.”

The report found residents were happy with the care they received and there were enough trained and competent staff in place to meet their needs.

The home was clean and there were procedures in place to minimise the risk of infections spreading, it was said.

“Staff minimised any factors which could increase the risk of falls,” the CQC said. “This included analysing incidents where people had a fall by monitoring their health for signs of illness or infection, assessing the home environment, ensuring people had appropriate footwear, assessing use of mobility equipment and the equipment to alert staff if people had a fall.

“This helped to minimise the risk of people falling and then reduce the impact if they did.”

The report added residents and relatives told inspectors they felt safe living at the home.

One relative said it had “been a weight off our minds knowing [my relative] is in a safe place”.

There was a positive atmosphere at the home, inspectors found, and staff were engaging with residents and motivated in their role.

There were safe systems in place for the receipt, storage, administration and disposal of medicines.

The report concluded: “The service was consistently managed and well-led.”

Engleburn Care Home is a large purpose-built home with four separate residential units, one of which specialises in accommodation for people living with dementia.

The A&T has approached the facility for comment.
