Homeowners in NFDC area urged to apply for government’s Warmer Homes funding

HOMEOWNERS on the Forest are being urged to apply for government funding to improve their properties’ energy efficiency.

Residents of homes with a mains gas supply could be eligible for up to £10,000 through the Warmer Homes programme, while those in homes without mains gas could receive up to £25,000.

People living in the district council area qualify for funding if their homes have an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G, and they have a total household income of £36,000 or less, or receive a means-tested benefit.

The Warmer Homes programme funding can be used to install energy efficient measures like insulation, solar panels, and air source heat pumps. It can also pay for high heat retention storage heaters in properties without mains gas.

NFDC’s spokesperson for housing and homelessness, Cllr Steve Davies, said: “The Warmer Homes funding programme is a great opportunity for eligible residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

“The installation of these measures, which includes solar panels, insulation, air source heat pumps, and more, will help to reduce the cost of our residents’ energy bills, and ensures that we are working towards achieving both our and the government’s climate aim of becoming net zero carbon by 2050.”

Funding is available on a first-come-first-served basis until next March and is subject to eligibility. Landlords of private rental tenants will have to make a financial contribution.
