CALMORE SPORTS’ young left-hander Ben Johns celebrated his maiden century in Australian sub-district cricket.

He he made a chanceless 105 for his adopted Melbourne club, Brighton, on the opening day of the VSDCA visit to Caufield.

Strong all around the wicket, the 23-year old (who has three Southern Premier League centuries to his name) cracked 105 to lead Brighton to 245-9, hitting 13 fours in energy-depleting conditions.

A booming drive wide of mid-off brought up his half-century.

He carried on to his maiden VSDCA century in his eighth match for Brighton, sharing a handy partnership late in the innings with St Cross Symondians all-rounder Jack Bransgrove (23).
