Bomb squad dispatched after child finds unexploded ordnance on Calshot beach

Bomb disposal experts were alerted after a child found a suspected unexploded ordnance at Calshot beach.

The alarm was raised last Sunday afternoon, and staff from the nearby Calshot Activities Centre cordoned off the area before police and the bomb squad arrived.

Having confirmed it was unexploded, the bomb disposal team removed the device from the scene.

Local police posted online afterwards: “Report made to control room that a child had found a suspected unexploded ordnance at Calshot beach.

“He did indeed find one, which was cordoned off by staff at the activity centre.

“Our friends from Bomb Disposal have attended and taken said ordnance with them!”

The post added: “Nice little time out at the beach for PCSO Connor and PC Jess to make sure no dogs came and pinched it thinking it was a toy!”
