Christchurch FC's FA Cup match to be shown live on BBC
CHRISTCHURCH FC are set to perform on the biggest stage in their history as their FA Cup Third Qualifying Round match tomorrow (13th October) will be shown live on the BBC.
Ollie Cherrett and Wayne Smith’s men will host South London side Dulwich Hamlet, who play three divisions higher, on Tuesday in front of a sold-out – albeit reduced capacity – Hurn Bridge.
The entire 300 tickets were bought within three hours of going on sale.
Fans who were unable to get their hands on a ticket will be able to watch the match on the BBC website, the red button or through BBC iPlayer from 7.45pm.
Christchurch’s joint manager, Wayne Smith, told the A&T: “Dulwich & Hamlet are a very good side, and we as a club are looking forward to the occasion. It’s everyone’s dream to have an FA Cup run, and being on the BBC makes is that little more special.
The Hurn Bridge side is no stranger to giant-killings this season after previously knocking out Gloucester City, who also play three leagues higher in National League North, and Dorchester Town, who play two divisions above in Southern League Premier South.
Before that, Christchurch beat Ascot United and Bashley FC in the preliminary rounds.
Wayne continued: “We will enjoy the night together as this is something we haven’t experienced before, we will work hard and hopefully lightning strikes again and we sneak through. But whatever happens, it’s been an amazing experience and we have gained more friends and supporters from this. I what to thank them all for supporting the players and club.”
Fellow joint manager Ollie Cherrett told the A&T: “This is great exposure for the club, and the chance to play on TV is something we’re really looking forward to.
“Dulwich & Hamlet play three leagues above us so it will be another really tough test as I’m sure they’ll be at their best with the cameras there.
“Whatever happens, we have to enjoy the evening and experience.”
Dulwich Hamlet also needed a penalty shoot-out to seal progression from the previous round, winning at Corinthian-Casuals with a 2-2 draw.
The winning team will receive £5,625, with the losers pocketing £1,875.
