Christchurch leapfrog Lymington Town with Wilcock header
Sydenhams Premier: Lymington Town 0-1 Christchurch FC
CHRISTCHURCH FC moved within eight points of top spot in the table with four games in hand after beating Lymington Town 1-0 at the Sports Ground.
From the outset, the visitors put Lymington under pressure and the Christchurch attacking force of Lucas Murrain, Max Wilcock and Ash Pope wreaked havoc on the Lymington backline and keeper Ross Casey.
The deadlock was broken on 27 minutes when Ron Frost’s long throw was met by a glancing Wilcock header which evaded Casey in the Lymington net. Christchurch continued to impose their will in a one-sided first half but were unable to double their lead before half-time.
Early chances
The second half proved much of the same with the visitors comfortably on the front foot. Minutes after the interval, Christchurch had a string of chances to put the game to bed.
Ben Satterley’s header had Casey scrambling across goal when his attempt clipped the outside of the post, in-form Pope’s curling effort just missed the far right post and Wilcock came close to claiming his brace.
As the game entered the last 15 minutes, Christchurch had failed to convert any of their numerous opportunities and Lymington started to gain a foothold in the game.
Striker Sam House created the home side’s best chance when he whipped in an inviting cross, but no one was able to get on the end of it and the ball went past the far post and out for a goal-kick.
The visitors were able to see out the final moments for a well-deserved victory which keep their title aspirations intact.
"Tough game"
Christchurch boss Ollie Cherrett told the A&T: “It was a tough away game and I felt we were professional all night. It’s another clean sheet which was very pleasing, and to get three points was great. The lads worked hard and although we didn’t play as well as we can or did on Saturday we got what we wanted.”
Christchurch’s schedule does not get any easier as they travel to third-placed AFC Portchester while Lymington are away at Portland United on Saturday.
